For 2020 Red Bull rebranded their League of Legends 1v1 tournament and introduced Red Bull Solo Queue (previously Player One). With more countries than ever involved and the introduction of the European finals to be hosted in Germany, 2020 was due to be a great year for Red Bull’s unique approach to League of Legends competition. Simultaneously, they introduced Red Bull Flick, a King-of-the-Hill style CS:GO 2v2 tournament, to Ireland and the rest of the world. RAID partnered with Red Bull Ireland once again to provide Broadcasting and Tournament Administration services, alongside consultancy on marketing.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to commit to our original plan of hosting the finals for each show in a live venue as we had for Player One in previous years. Instead, we worked closely with Red Bull Ireland to pivot with 2 weeks’ notice and host a pair of all-online tournaments early in the lockdown period. We wanted to give people a fun tournament to take part in during the early stages of lockdown – it was important to us to use the opportunity we had to give people even a brief distraction from the uncertainty that COVID quarantine introduced

We provided 4 online events for Solo Q – 2 open qualifiers and 2 playoff events – across 4 weeks. We provided a high-quality live stream, branded with Red Bull’s Solo Q graphics. This was our first fully remote broadcast in several years, with remote commentators, remote game capture, and a remote director. Despite facing some of the same challenges seen the world over where broadcasts transitioned to remote workflows, we’re proud to have delivered a live stream package that met our high standards for quality.

The winner of the Irish tournament, Gabriel “Trevis” Fiel, will represent Ireland at the international Red Bull Solo Queue event which is still to be announced.

We had originally planned to follow the same format – albeit a few weeks later – for Red Bull Flick. However, a last minute date change meant that we had to again move fast. We hosted a single online qualifier to send Ireland’s best CS:GO duo to the qualifiers for the newly-announced Flick invitational.

It was important to us that we provide a fun and high-quality tournament experience to the players who had committed their time to playing Flick. With that in mind, we hosted an additional cash-prized tournament over 2 weeks for those who had missed out on their chance due to the date change.
